‘Last Night of Ballyhoo’ dates announced
EUNICE - The Eunice Players’ Theatre announces that practice is underway for the first show of the 39th season. “The Last Night of Ballyhoo,” written by Alfred Uhry and directed by Gabe Ortego and Angie B. LaCalle, is scheduled to open in April.
“The Last Night of Ballyhoo” takes place in Atlanta, Georgia in 1939 during the time that the premier of “Gone with the Wind” is about to take place. Ballyhoo is the annual gala ball for German Jews of the South and the question is who will attend and with whom. Families are torn apart and mended with plenty of comedy, romance and revelations along the way.
Starring in this delightful comedy is Jody Powell as Boo Levy and playing her daughter, Lala Levy, is Claire Anding. The role of Reba Freitag is played by Deborah D. Ardoin and the role of her daughter, Sunny Freitag, will be played by Abby Deger. The role of Adolph Freitag will be played by Wesley Saunders and the two suitors Joe Farkas and Peachy Weil will be played by Gabe Ortego and Ryan Buxton.
“The Last Night of Ballyhoo” is scheduled to open Saturday, April 12, at 7 p.m. and continues Sunday, April 13, with a 2 p.m. matinee. The Dinner Theatre is Monday, April 14 at 6 p.m. with a Steak Dinner catered by Nick’s on Second Street and dessert and coffee served at intermission.
The show reopens Thursday, April 17, through Saturday, April 19, with curtain call at 7 p.m. The show closes Sunday, April 20, with a 2 p.m. matinee. There will be a collection plate passed at intermission for Relay For Life so we encourage our audiences to be generous for this cancer fundraiser.
Season tickets can be purchased at Louis Wright’s for $20 per ticket. This ticket includes three shows, guaranteed reservations, voting privileges and an invitation to the Irving Awards. Single tickets will be available for purchase in late March.
