16th Annual Smoked Meat Festival pageants announced

Smoked Meat Youth Pageant

The 16th Annual Smoked Meat Festival will have a beauty pageant, for contestants ages 0-13 years, Thursday, June 26. The pageant will be held at the Ville Platte Civic Center from 6 to 9 p.m. A registration fee of $25 will be charged. Registration will be held Thursday, June 5, and Friday, June 6, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Heirlooms Etc. (206 East Beech Street). Those registering during the registration period will receive a free pass to the festival.

Attire is Sunday best only for ages 0-10; and for ages 11-13, only formal wear will be accepted.

Door registration will be accepted the day of the pageant with a $10 late fee added. No changing of divisions will be allowed, and child must be in the correct age division as of the day of the pageant.

The age divisions and times are as follows: Baby Miss and Master (0 - 11 months), 6 p.m.; Toddler Miss and Master (12 - 23 months), 6:30 p.m.; Tiny Miss and Master (two - three years), 7 p.m.; Wee Miss and Master (four - five years), 7:30 p.m.; Little Miss (six - seven years), 8 p.m.; Missy Miss (eight - 10 years), 8:30 p.m.; and Deb Miss (11 - 13 years), 9 p.m.

A trophy will be awarded to the youngest contestant. Contest is open statewide.

Smoked Meat Teen,

Miss and Ms. Pageant

The 16th Annual Smoked Meat Beauty Pageant will be held Sunday, June 22, at 7 p.m. at the Ville Platte Civic Center in conjunction with the festival. The pageant is open state-wide to girls between the ages of 14 and 23 who are residents of Louisiana. A tea and interview will be held at 3 p.m. at the civic center. All contestants must attend the tea. The evening gown competition will begin at 7 p.m. Formal wear is required for evening competition. The registration fee is $50.

Age divisions are as follows: Teen, 14 - 16 years; Miss, 17 - 23 years (may not be older than 23 years by January 1, 2009); and Ms., 23 years and older (may have been married or can be separated, divorced or widowed, with or without children.)

The miss queen is required to attend 10 functions prior to the LAFF Queen of Queens Pageant in February in order to be eligible to attend and enter the pageant. The Teen Miss and Ms. winners are required to attend five functions during their reign.

Deadline to enter the pageant is June 19, after which a $10 late fee will be added to the registration.
