18-wheeler blocks exit

CROWLEY – Commuters who are used to heading east on I-10 from the Exit 80 (Eunice/Crowley) entrance ramp were forced to take an alternative route Monday morning as an 18-wheeler flipped over, spilling its contents, mostly scrap metal, in the process.

No serious injuries were reported though the truck’s driver was taken to American Legion Hospital for precautionary measures.

Crowley Fire Department officials said they got the initial call at 6:12 a.m. Workers were still busy cleaning up diesel fuel at 7:15 and authorities estimated it would be several hours before the ramp would be reopened. The ramp was reopened by 12 noon.

Witnesses at the scene said that it appeared that the truck simply took the curve to fast and its weight pulled it over.

The truck is owned by Shannon Gaspard Trucking Company.
