18-wheeler overturned on the Iota-Eunice Highway
First responders and environmental teams were enroute at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday to the scene of an overturned 18-wheeler on the Iota-Eunice Highway.
According to first responders on the scene, the driver of the 18-wheeler was alive but trapped when they arrived, and expired shortly after.
The accident occurred near the intersection with Arpent Road, near the La Pay E Bas RV Park, approximately four miles south of Eunice.
First responders said that the 18-wheeler collided with a pick-up truck and overturned; the driver of the pick-up was uninjured.
It was determined shortly after the wreck that the truck was hauling crude oil, which was observed leaking at a consistent rate into the nearby ditch.
Roadblocks were set up at least a mile back north of the accident.
Responders were requesting a heavy duty wrecker to right the rig in order to free the driver and clear the road and hazardous materials teams were also requested.
