1942 Iota Class Reunion Held
The 1942 graduating class of Iota High School gathered on Sunday, June 7, 2009 for a class reunion held at Chef Roy’s Frog City Café in Rayne
The mid-day reunion and luncheon was attended by the following 12 of remaining 16 classmates of 67 years: Anna Reed, Verna “Lou” Miller, Avery Bertrand, Geneva Everett, Gibson LeJeune, Audrey Pousson, J.D. Bertrand, Loah Simar, Belva Burger, Ella Bertrand, Joel Pousson and Gilton Pousson.
The graduating class numbered 45 upon graduation.
Reunion ccommittee members were chairperson Ella Bertrand, John Avery Bertrand, Verna “Lou” Miller and Joel Pousson.
No special awards were presented, but all classmates in attendance and their guests each received a goodie bag along with a class picture from the 2008 reunion.
The noon-time menu consisted of a choice of shrimp, chicken or hamburger steak, along with sides and beverages.
Classmates attended from Rayne, Crowley, Iota, Belle Chase, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Ville Platte, Eunice, Jennings, Evangeline, and Bay Minette, Ala.
Remembered was the class song, “America,” and the motto, “Forward ever, Backward never.” The class flower was the rose (red and white), with the class colors including red, white and blue in observance of WWII.
Class officers were president Philip Amy, vice president Cullen Bernard, secretary Eith Joy Major Harrington, all deceased.
