2009-2010 school year start-up schedules listed

As posted by the Acadia Parish School Board, the first official day of the 2009-2010 school year is Friday, Aug. 14, with the following local and area schools listing important dates

Rayne High

School will open for students at Rayne High School on Aug. 14, announces Principal Bobby Hamlin.

Following orientation held Tuesday, Aug. 4, for the new school year, the following dates remain:Student identificaton cards for RHS students will be made in the school’s guidance department. Identification cards are required and are necessary for entrance to school activities.

The cost of the ID card is now $10 each. Replacement cards, due to loss or damage, will cost $10 each. Replacement lanyards will cost $2.

Parking permit application forms will be available for students. All students driving to school must purchase a parking permit by Sept. 4 for $10 each.

Also of special note, yearbooks will be on sale for $35 and planners will be sold for $6 each.

Armstrong Middle

Armstrong Middle School Principal Marshall Thibodeaux has scheduled orientation and ID picture-taking sessions.

Identification photos will be taken as follows:

Sixth Graders: Wednesday, Aug. 5, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon; Seventh Graders: Thursday, Aug. 6, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon; and Eighth Graders: Friday, Aug. 7, from 9 a.m. until noon.

Orientation for incoming sixth graders and their parents will be held Monday, Aug. 10, at 6 p.m. in the gym.

Rayne Catholic

As announced by RCE Principal Fred Menard, the following schedule has been released for the start of the 2009-2010 school year:

Students in Pre-K and kindergarten (A-J), and 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades are to report for their first day of class on Thursday, Aug. 13, with a 12:15 p.m. dismissal. On Friday, Aug. 14, students in Pre-K and kindergarten (K-Z), and 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades are to report for their first day of class with a 12:15 p.m. dismissal.

The first full day of school for the entire student body is Monday, Aug. 17, with regular bus service during normal school hours.

The annual Buddy Hello for kindergarten and 8th grade students will be held Monday, Aug. 10, at 5:30 p.m., along with a new family meeting for all new parents. A beginning orientation for all parents will begin at 6 p.m.

Athletic physicals are slated for Saturday, Aug. 8, in the school gym. Boys are to report at 8:30 a.m., girls at 10 a.m.

Notre Dame

Freshmen orientation at Notre Dame High School will be held Monday, Aug. 10, between 8-11 a.m. The first day of school for freshmen and seniors is Thursday, Aug. 13, with a 1:30 p.m. dismissal. Sophomores and juniors will report to school on Friday, Aug. 14, with a 1:30 p.m. dismissal. The first full day of school for the entire student body is Monday, Aug. 17, which will include an 8 a.m. school liturgy.

Martin Petitjean

A student/parent orientation will be held at Martin Petitjean Elementary on Wednesday, Aug. 12, between 4:30-5:30 p.m. All parents and students are urged to attend as announced by principal Kim Cummins.

South Rayne

As announced by principal Amy Whatley, South Rayne Elementary parents and their fourth and fifth grade students enrolled at South Rayne Elementary School for the 2009-2010 school year are invited to the school’s orientation Wednesday, Aug. 12, in the school cafeteria.

Parents and fourth graders will meet at 6 p.m., while fifth grade students and their parents meeting at 6:30 p.m. Students may bring their school supplies with them to the orientation if already purchased.
