2011 Annual Children's Fishing Derby Held
The City of Rayne, joined by community partners, The Acadiana Sportman’s League, hosted 129 youngsters during the 2011 annual Children’s Fishing Derby held Saturday, June 11, 2011, between the hours of 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the ponds located on the grounds of Maison d’Memoire (Ken & Lynn Guidry) at 8450 Roberts Cove Road (Hwy. 98) just northwest of Rayne.
According to Cultural Director Cheryl Richard, the catch and release fishing event was held for children up to 15 years of age accompanied by an adult for the day which included a number of activities and instructional programs.
Prizes were awarded at the culmination of the fishing tournament and a light lunch of hot dogs and cold drinks were provided by the Rayne Lions Club.
Winners in each of the categories were:
0-5 years: Largest Bream – Carson Romero & Tanner Myers (tie); Largest Bass – Carson Romero; Most Fish – Emma Guidry.
6-8 years: Largest Bream – Ava Thibodeaux; Largest Bass – Ava Thibodeaux; Largest Sacalait – Jager Boullion; Largest Other – Noah Peter & Jager Boullion; Most Fish – Gavin LaBauve.
9-12 years: Largest Bream – Hunter Domingue; Largest Bass – Caleb Bergeron; Most Fish – Hailey Leblanc.
13-15 years: Largest Bream – Ivy Thibodeaux; Largest Bass – Dylan Bergeron; Most Fish – Ivy Thibodeaux.
Largest Overall Tournament Fish – Caleb Bergeron – Bass 2.68 pounds.
