2011 prep baseball season kicks off with annual jamborees
CROWLEY – The 2011 prep baseball season officially gets underway Saturday with a number of jamborees taking place across the state.
Crowley High will participate in the Rayne Jamboree at Gossen Memorial Park. Joining them will be the host Wolves, Church Point and Welsh.
Action begins at 9 a.m. with back-to-back jayvee contests. The first pits Crowley against Welsh and the second will have Rayne squaring off with Church Point.
Crowley High will take on Welsh in the first varsity contest at noon. Welsh will then play Rayne at 1:30 p.m. Crowley returns to the field at 3 to take on Church Point and Rayne and Church Point round out the jamboree at 4:30.
All games will be three innings or an hour and 15 minutes.
Admission will be $4 for adults and $2 for students.
Notre Dame, the defending Class AAA state champions, will also be in action. The Pios travel to Lafayette to take part in the Teurlings Jamboree Saturday.
The Pios’ jayvee squad will take on Westminster at 12:40 p.m. and that game will be followed by a varsity game between the two teams at 1:50. A 3 p.m. jayvee game between Notre Dame and Teurlings is next, followed by the Pios and the Rebels, the defending Class AAAA state champions, who will square off in a varsity contest at 4:10.
Each contest is scheduled for three innings or an hour time limit.
Northside Christian will play two games in the Lake Arthur Jamboree. The Warriors will take on the host Tigers at 11 a.m. and South Cameron at 1 p.m.
Iota will participate in the Eunice High Jamboree. The Bulldogs will take on Ascension Episcopal at 2:50 p.m. and St. Edmund at 4.
