25th Annual Boggy Bayou Pageant held
Hannah Ciara Carriere, the 19-year-old daughter of Carla Terrell and David Carriere, both of Church Point, was crowned the 25th Boggy Bayou Queen Saturday afternoon, April 4, during
this year’s Boggy Bayou Festival in Pine Prairie. She was also named Miss Congeniality in the pageant. Evangeline Parish Sheriff Eddie Soileau was crowned Boggy Bayou King.
The new queen is currently attending the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where she is majoring in psychology. She is the 2007 valedictorian of Church Point High School graduating class. She is a member of the UL of L honor’s program and is employed with the college’s English department. She was crowned by outgoing queen Fallan Higginbotham. Fallan’s niece, Chloe Cooley, the daughter of Cody and Candace Cooley of Iota, served as crown bearer.
Alyssa Brooke McDaniel, the 18-year-old daughter of Tammy Hammond of Pine Prairie and Scott McDaniel of Ville Platte, was named first runner-up to the new queen. Brooke is a senior at Pine Prairie High School, where she serves her class as vice-president.
Kenneth and Sheila Granger of Pine Prairie donated the crown for the new Miss queen in memory of their daughter Brittany Granger. The King’s plaque was donated by Awards Unlimited, owner Chris Guillory.
The Mrs. Boggy Bayou crown went to Bridget Dawn O’Connor, the wife of Neal O’Connor. She is the mother of three daughters and has been married for 17 years. The new Mrs. Queen is the daughter of Joe and Molly Gautreaux of Pine Prairie. She is currently employed with Accupress CD/DVD Duplication.
Placing as first runner-up to the new Mrs. queen was Crystal May, the wife of Johnny May of Ville Platte. She is currently employed with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Department.
The Mrs. queen’s crown was donated by Pine Prairie mayor and former Boggy Bayou king Terry Savant.
Judging Saturday’s pageant were former Boggy Bayou Queens: Balinda Ardoin of Lake Charles, Jenna Doyle of Pine Prairie, and Kellie Guillory of Ville Platte.
There were over 30 visiting queens at Saturday’s pageant.
