
The
45th annual George Washington
Ball honors armed forces
The
Galvez Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution and Attakapas
Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution, held the 45th annual George
Washington Ball on March 13, 2004 at the Lafayette Petroleum Club.
This years ball honored all of the armed forces defending our
freedom.
Tall green palm trees decorated with white twinkling lights
accented by urns filled with spring arrangements of fresh red gladiolas,
blue Louisiana irises, white carnations and green ferns formed the
background for the presentation. The ball provided the setting for
the presentation honoring three local debutantes and three local young
patriots whose ancestors took part in the fight for independence.
Mr. Wallace Aaron LaFleur of Lafayette Galvez Chapter,
DAR, was general chairman of the ball. Compatriots Stanton Hardee,
Jr. of Kaplan, past president of the Attakapas Chapter, SAR, served
as captain of the ball and the master of ceremonies was Compatriot
Henry P. Hebert, Jr. of Lafayettes Attakapas Chapter, SAR.
Lady Leah LaFargue of Lake Charles was the choreographer. Mrs. Walter
B. Carter of Lafayette, Regent, Galvez Chapter of the Louisiana Society
of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Compatriot James Hubert
Dumesnil of Lafayette, President Attakapas Chapter, Louisiana Society
of the Sons of the American Revolution brought greetings.
Compatriot William Bienvenue, M.D. of Lafayette gave the invocation.
Debutantes presented at the ball were Whitney Kathryn
Andrus, Elise Adelaide Brunson, Valerie Elizabeth Hensgens and Anne
Elise Robertson. The young patriots presented were John Douglas Hundley
and Benjamin Armstrong Moody.
Whitney Kathryn Andrus is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
David W. Andrus of Lafayette. She is a student at St. Thomas More
Catholic High School where she is a member of the Beta Club, STM Ambassadors
and Science Club. Her revolutionary ancestors was John May, soldier
in the sixth Carolina regiment. She is sponsored by her mother, Michelle
Jane Broadhurst Andrus of Lafayette and her grandmother, Marian Bear
Lewis Broadhurst of Crowley.
Elise Adelaide Brunson is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Jeffrey Brunson of Crowley. She is a student at Notre Dame High School
where she is a member of FCCLA, Speech and Drama Club and SOFA Club.
Her revolutionary ancestors were Daniel McNair of Georgia, Joab Horn
of North Carolina, John Dubose of South Carolina and Daniel Brunson
of South Carolina. She is being sponsored by her grandparents Judge
and Mrs. Hugh E. (Margaret) Brunson of Crowley.
Valerie Elizabeth Hensgens is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Dennis Joseph Hensgens, Sr. of Crowley. She attends Notre Dame
High School where she is a four-year member of the Student Council,
now serving as treasurer, a member of the Beta Club and Campus Ministry.
Her revolutionary ancestors were Francois Broussard of Louisiana and
Private Jean George Stelly of Louisiana. Her grandmother, Mrs. B.
I. Moody, III of Crowley is her sponsor.
Anne Elise Robertson is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel
Adams Robertson of Lafayette. She attends St. Thomas More Catholic
High School where she is a member of the National Honor Society, Executive
Vice-President of the Student Council and was on the Homecoming court.
Her revolutionary ancestors were Francois Broussard of Louisiana and
Private Jean George Stelly of Louisiana. She is being sponsored by
her grandmother, Mrs. B. I. Moody, III of Crowley.
John Douglas Hundley is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas
Joseph Hundley of Lafayette. He attends St. Thomas More Catholic High
School where he is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes,
STM varsity football team and the STM varsity basketball team. His
revolutionary ancestors were Private Jean George Stelly of Louisiana
and Francois Broussard of Louisiana. He is being sponsored by his
grandmother, Mrs. B. I. Moody, III of Crowley.
Benjamin Armstrong Moody is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard
Kevin Moody and Ms. Jeanne Franques Moody. He is a student at St.
Thomas More Catholic High School where he is a member of the STM varsity
football team and Ducks Unlimited. His revolutionary ancestors were
Francois Broussard of Louisiana and Private Jean George Stelly of
Louisiana. His grandmother, Mrs. B. I. Moody, III of Crowley, is sponsoring
him.
