Gala to honor B.I. Moody, III
LAFAYETTE
- The UL Lafayette Alumni Association will honor B.I Moody III during
its 2006 Spring Gala Saturday, April 8. The annual event will
be at the Alumni Center from 6:30 p.m. until 10 p.m.
Each year, the association recognizes an honoree for
his commitment to the success of the University and his dedicated service
to the surrounding community.
Moody, a graduate of Rayne High School, attended Auburn
University after high school. His studies were interrupted when he joined
the U. S. Navy in World War II, where he served in the Pacific aboard
the Aircraft Carrier USS Randolph.
Following his discharge from the Navy, Moody enrolled
at Southwestern Louisiana Institute, now UL Lafayette. He received a
Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in Accounting.
He was a founding partner in the CPA firm of Moody, Broussard, Poche'
& Guidry with offices in Crowley and Lafayette. Moody also served
as President & Chief Executive Officer of Chart House, Inc., a public
company operating Burger King hamburger restaurants in Louisiana, Illinois,
California, Virginia, and Texas, as well as Chart House steak restaurants
in California, Cork & Cleaver steak restaurants located in Colorado
and Luther's Barbeque, domiciled in Texas. He also served as Chairman
of the Board of First National Bank of Lafayette.
His services on boards of directors include Rayne
State Bank & Trust Company, First National Bank of Crowley, Acadia
Savings & Loan Association, Coastal Chemical Company, Inc. of Abbeville,
Riviana Foods, Inc. of Houston, First Commerce Bank of New Orleans,
Celeron Oil Company, Inc. of Lafayette, and Quantum Restaurants, Inc.
of New York.
Moody served as President of the Greater Crowley Chamber of Commerce
and Chairman of the United Givers Fund of Acadia Parish.
He is married to the former Thelma Hebert of Rayne
and they are the parents of nine children and grandparents of 49 grandchildren.
The Moody's reside in Crowley.
In its tenth year, the gala event will consist of fine food and refreshments,
wonderful entertainment as well as both silent and live auctions, with
items ranging from Ragin' Cajun memorabilia, to fine art and trips.
The Spring Gala is the Alumni Association's only annual
fundraising event, with proceeds from the evening being used to fund
the Alumni Center.
At the core of organizing the event is Theresa Gaspard,
president-elect, who is serving as chair of the Gala. Melanie Martin,
Alumni Council member, is serving as chair of the Auction Committee.
Patron level contributors of $2,000 will receive eight gala tickets,
reserved seating for eight, valet parking, their name listed on the
evening's program and patrons' sign and their name listed on a plaque
permanently placed in the Alumni Center. Sponsor level contributors
of $5,000 will also receive eight gala tickets, reserved seating for
eight, valet parking, their name listed on the evening's program and
sponsorship sign and their name listed on a plaque permanently placed
in the Alumni Center. Sponsors will also be invited to participate in
a private reception. Tickets to attend are $150 per couple.
