Abbeville man dies following crash

VERMILION PARISH- Last night, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a single vehicle crash on LA Highway 82 near Marlin Road which claimed the life of an Abbeville man.

According to investigating Troopers, on June 17, 2013, at 6:51 p.m., 44-year-old Darren Mouton of Abbeville, was driving a Chevrolet Corvette south on LA Highway 82. For reasons still under investigation, Mouton traveled off the right side of the road, overcorrected left and struck a ditch embankment on the left side of the road.

Mouton was restrained and was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. At about 3:00 a.m. this morning, Mouton died as a result of his injuries.

It is unknown if impairment was a factor in this crash; however, routine toxicology samples were obtained and have been submitted for analysis.

This crash remains under investigation.

Last year, 62% of the fatal crashes investigated by Troop I involved some form of impairment. While results are still pending in this crash, Troopers remind drivers about the dangers of impaired driving. Even after having just one drink, decision making abilities are hindered. Make the responsible decision every time, don’t drink and drive.
