Acadia Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution adopt war veteran

Lawrence P. LeGros, a 94-year old veteran who lives at the Southwest Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jennings is Acadia Chapter’s “Adopted Veteran.”

LeGros served in the United States Navy from August 23, 1940 until October 13, 1945.

During World War II, he was assigned to a convoy escort for shipping in the Caribbean, along the Atlantic Coast and in the shipping routes between the U.S. and England.

He was stationed aboard the USS Herbert and at submarine repair bases in Connecticut and at Pearl Harbor.

He was born in Morse on August 12, 1914 and was a resident of Mermentau Cove. LeGros is married to the former Melba Lee of Jennings. They had two children, Gregory L. LeGros who is deceased and Connie Cormier.

He had two brothers and seven sisters. One brother lost his life at Pearl harbor aboard the USS

Arizona and one brother is a retired Air Force, LT. Colonel,
