Acadia Chapter LSDAR Meets at Simon Home in Crowley
CROWLEY - Acadia Chapter LSDAR and their guests met Thursday, May 13th at 11 A.M. at the lovely home of Mrs. Elaine Simon in Crowley for the May “Spring Fling” luncheon.
After the Ritualistic Opening, conducted by Chaplain Elaine Simon and Regent Charlene LaCombe, reports were given. Jo-Anne Arnaud gave the Treasurer’s report; Joanna Pruitt, Secretary, read the April meeting’s minutes. Elaine Simon, National Defense Chairman, discussed the schools which named students to receive the coveted award.
Regent LaCombe read various announcements followed by an active discussion about the presentations of artists at the DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D. C. Members decided to write a resolution about the entertainment to send to the state resolutions chairman. Also, prospective members’ names were presented to the membership for acceptance.
Joan Hernandez, incoming Regent, presented Regent LaCombe with a potted plant and the chapter’s gift was presented to the out-going Regent by Elaine Simon.
Officers for 2010 – 2013 were installed by Chaplain Elaine Simon. The new chapter officers are Joan Hernandez of Eunice, Regent; Joanna Leigh Pruitt of Crowley, Vice-President and Parliamentarian; Elaine Simon of Crowley, Chaplain; Charlene LaCombe of Iota, Secretary; Jo-Anne Arnaud of Crowley, Treasurer; and Barbara de la Houssaye of Crowley, Registrar.
The chapter’s twenty-five year members – Laura Edwards, Clara Hundley, Joanna Pruitt and Rhonda Whitfield - were honored with certificates and gifts by the Regent. Also, Isabella de la Houssaye, the nominee for Outstanding Woman in American History was presented a gift by American History Chairman, Alma Reed.
Hernandez announced that she would schedule a planning meeting at her home in Eunice later in the month.
After the brief meeting, members were treated to a salad luncheon on the patio. Enjoying the meal and fellowship were members: Elaine Simon, Joanna Pruitt, Jo-Anne Arnaud, Flo Jones, Camille Reed, Alma Reed, Charlene LaCombe, Isabella de la Houssaye, Joan Hernandez, Mitzi Gardiner, and Wilda Stringer. Guests were Peggy Standidge and Gerri Meche.
