Acadia jobless rate grows
Unemployment rose in the Tri-Parish area in December for the first time in four months.
According to the Louisiana Workforce Commission, Acadia Parish’s rate was 6.9 percent compared to November’s 6.2 and about 46 percent higher than the 4.7 percent rate a year earlier.
St. Landry Parish’s unemployment rate in December was 8.2 percent, almost a full percent point jump from November’s 7.3 rate and about 33 percent higher than the December 2008 rate rate of 6.1 percent.
In Evangeline Parish, the rate reached 9 percent, a significant increase from November’s 7.7 percent and 30 percent higher than the same month the year before.
Statewide, the unemployment rate climbed to 7.2 percent in December compared to November’s 6.4 percent rate.
The national rate was 9.7 percent.
