Acadia Parish Library to “make a splash”

CROWLEY - The spotlight this summer at the Acadia Parish Library will be a splashing filled experience. Come join in the fun and explore the world of water and water fun through stories, songs and other activities about oceans, rivers, lakes and pools and the creatures that live there. This spectacular Summer Reading Program will begin Thursday, May 27 and run through August 14, 2010.

The Acadia Parish Library invites children, Pre-K through fourth grade living in the area to come and “Make A Splash-Read!” by joining the Summer Reading Program. Upon registration, each child will receive a colorful reading log in order to log the books they read and a colorful bookmark. After a child has read ten books, his or her name will be placed on a sea creature, and the placed on the ocean display in the library. If a child reads 20 books, he or she will receive a special colorful “Make A Splash- Read” certificate with their name on it. All children are welcome to join the program any time before August 14 (Everyone must have a valid Acadia Parish Library Card.)

Parents are encouraged to bring their children for a “sea filled summer” through stories and crafts that will have their children eager to be dazzled by reading books this summer. The children will learn to do various activities based on the theme of the day.

The Acadia Parish Library will again be adding real magic this summer. Everyone can be a part of this free real magic. In Crowley it will be held at the Acadia Parish Educational Center (old Wal-Mart building) July 28 at 10 a.m. Morse, Mermentau and Estherwood will be held at the Midland High School Girls’ gym on July 19 at 1 p.m. In Church Point it will be held on July 20 at the Church Point Elementary School cafeteria at 10:30 a.m. Iota’s show will be held at Iota Elementary School at 2 p.m. on July 2, and in Rayne on July 22 at 10:30 a.m. in the Rayne High School gym.

T-shirts and book bags with the “Make a Splash-Read” logo are available for the public to purchase at each branch of the Acadia Parish Library, beginning May 27.

In Crowley, Story Hour will be held every Wednesday at the library starting on June 9 lasting through July 28. The dazzling will begin at 10 a.m. and last until 11 a.m. In addition to story hour, the Crowley library will also offer a movie matinee every Thursday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. This activity will begin on June 10 and last until July 15 for those in grades five and up.

Each library in Acadia Parish will hold their own respective programs throughout the summer. The schedule is as follows: Story Hour in Rayne will be held every Thursday from June 10 through July 22 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.; Church Point every Tuesday beginning June 8 through July 20 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.; Estherwood every Monday beginning June 7 through July 19 from 3 to 4 p.m.; Iota, every Wednesday beginning June 9 through July 21 from 2 to 3 p.m., and Morse, every Monday beginning June 7 through July 19 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
