Acadia Parish Library prepares for summer

CROWLEY – The spotlight this summer at the Acadia Parish Library will be a magical filled experienced. Come, join in the fun and have a “fantasy-filled” summer, full of stories about princesses, knights, fairies, nursery rhymes and many other activities.

This fantastic summer program will begin June 1 and run through August 8. The Acadia Parish Library invites children, Pre-k through fourth grade, living in the area to come and fantasize “Once Upon A Time” by joining the Summer Reading Program

Upon registration, each child will receive a colorful reading log in order to log the books they read and a colorful bookmark. After a child has read 10 books, his or her name will be placed on the “princess and knight: display in the library. If a child reads more than 20 books, he or she will receive a special colorful “Once Upon A Time” certificate. All children are welcome to join the program any time before August 9. Everyone must have a valid Acadia Parish Library Card.)

Parents are encouraged to bring their children for a “fantasy-filled summer” through stories and crafts that will have their children eager to be in the land of fantasy and be dazzled by reading books this summer. The children will learn to do various activities based on the theme of the day.

The Acadia Parish Library will be adding real magic this summer. The final programs will feature “The Rob Rue and Bobbi Magic Show.” Everyone can be a part of this real magic.

In Crowley, it will be held at the Acadia Parish Educational Center (Old Wal Mart building) on July 29 at 10 a.m. Morse, Estherwood and Mermentau will be held at the Midland High School Gym on July 27 at 1 p.m. In Church Point, it will be held on July 21 at the Church Point Elementary School cafeteria at 10:30 a.m. Iota will be at Iota Elementary School cafeteria at 2 p.m. on July 22 and in Rayne it will be held on July 23 at the Rayne High School Gym.

T-shirts and book bags with the “Once Upon a Time” logo are available for the public to purchase at each branch of the Acadia Parish Library, beginning May 25, 2009.

In Crowley, story hour is held every Wednesday at the library starting June 10 through June 29. The dazzling will begin at 10 a.m. and last until 11 a.m. In addition to story hour, the Crowley library will also offer a movie matinee every Thursday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. This activity will begin June 11 and end July 23 for those in grades five and up.

Each library in Acadia Parish will hold their own respective programs throughout the summer. The schedule is as follows: Story hour in Rayne will be held every Thursday from between June 11 and July 23 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m; In Church Point, every Tuesday, beginning June 9 and ending July 21 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m; In Estherwood, between June 8 through July 27, from 3 to 4 p.m.; Iota, every Wednesday from June 10 through July 27 at 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.; Morse every Monday lasting from July 8 through July 27 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
