Acadia Parish voters favor tax renewals
In an election held Saturday, October 17, voters in Iota, Bayou Mallet and the villages of Mermentau and Estherwood voted in favor of the renewal of millages.
Voters in the area of Iota cast ballots 104 to 5 in favor of the renewal of a ten year, five mill property tax for the Iota Long Point Gravity Drainage District. The polls reported a 2.24 percent turnout.
Bayou Mallet voters cast ballots 45 to 5 in favor of the renewal of a ten year 5.04 mill tax that will support the Bayou Mallet Gravity Drainage District. The polls reported a 1.69 percent turnout.
Voters in the Mermentau and Estherwood areas cast ballots 126 to 6 in favor of renewing a ten year, 4.80 mill tax for Fire Protection District 5, which yielded a 3.53 percent voter turnout.
