Acadia Players announces cast for 'Grease'
CROWLEY - Come back with the Acadia Players to the days of bobby socks and poodle skirts, of ducktails and malt shops. Re-visit the innocent times of the 1950’s as the Acadia Players brings you the phenomenal hit, Grease to be held at the Grand Opera House of the South in downtown Crowley, Louisiana June 10,12,13,16 and 17, 2010.
Rehearsals are in full swing for the early June production and, in announcing the production, Jimmy Broussard, director and President of the Acadia Players, noted that this production is a long-time dream come true.”I have been waiting for the time that we could perform this fantastic musical on the Crowley stage. Grease was my first acting experience with the Eunice Players’ Theater, and it gave me the immediate ‘bug’ for the theater. That was 17 years ago and I still remember that first experience.”
Broussard noted that the cast has been tremendous to the success of this play. “The cast for this production, to me, is comparable to no other. It has been an extreme pleasure working with them. They are extremely dedicated, and supremely talented. No one will be disappointed with this fantastic cast.” Broussard adds that many of the faces of the cast are familiar to the citizens of Crowley and Acadia Parish.
Starring in the role of Danny Zuko will be Andre’ Trahan. Having premiered in the Notre Dame Players’ production of “Phantom of the Opera,” Trahan resumes his talent of song, dance and acting as the leader of the famed “T-Birds.” Sharing leadership responsibilities with Trahan as the character of Kenickie will be Connor Broussard, also a veteran of the Notre Dame Players’ stage. Broussard was the Phantom in ND Production of “Phantom of the Opera” and then returned to the stage this year as the Judge in Notre Dame’s Production of “To Kill a Mockingbird.”
Starring in the part of the naive Sandy who blossoms into a “full Pink Lady” is Leah Lapointe. Leah is no stranger to the stage either, having starred as Christine in ND’s Production of “Phantom of the Opera” and as Student Director for this year’s ND production of “To Kill a Mockingbird.” Leading the Pink Ladies in the part of Rizzo will be Becky Whiting.
Performing in the parts of the “T-Birds” are: Casey Robichaux as Roger, Ben Stringfellow as Doody and Logan Frederick as Sonny. Comprising the cast of “Pink Ladies” is: Courtney Richard as Marty, Hailey Johnson as Jan and Jordan Broussard as Frenchie.
Robichaux, Richard, Frederick and Broussard bring their wisdom of many performances to the Grease stage. All have performed in numerous Notre Dame and Acadia Players’ productions, while Stringfellow and Johnson, though new to the Acadia Players’ stage, have had their accolades in other performances with St. Michael and Rayne respectively. Robichaux and Frederick were seen in the Notre Dame Players’ production of “To Kill a Mockingbird,” while all four performed in ND Production of “Phantom of the Opera.” In addition, both Richard and Broussard were seen as of late in the Acadia Players’ production of “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
Rounding out the cast of 50’s phenoms are, Ms. Carolyn Patrick in the studious role of matronly teacher Miss Lynch; Morgan Moeller as the efferescent Cheerleader Patty Simcox; Claire Dore’ as the Latino Mammasita Cha-Cha DeGregorio; Justin Hebert as the bungling Eugene Florsyzk; Aaron Bertrand as the silver-tongued Vince Fontaine; Ronald Ronkartz as the swift-singing Johnny Casino; and, Derek Regan as the angelic “Teen Angel,” assisted by his heavenly beauties: Patsy Hartsell, Rachel LaCroix, Zaner Cluse and Ashley Wright.
Sharing directorial duties and musical director duties with Jimmy is Mrs. Susan Comeaux. Mrs. Comeaux is a renowned name in the world of music, theater and community involvement. Mrs. Patty Ronkartz brings her administrative talents to the floor as Producer; and, Mrs. Lynne Broussard rounds out the Administrative Team as Assistant to the Directors. Assisting in the rehearsals have been Mrs. Jeanne LeJeune Eddins and Ms. Angie LaCalle, both members of Broussard’s cast of the 1993 Grease performed at the Eunice Players’ Theater.
