ACADIA RODEO WINNERS: Several members of the Tri-Parish High School Rodeo Club, including four from Acadia Parish, placed in the Louisiana State High School Finals Rodeo
, held at the Lamar-Dixon Arena in Gonzales on June 21. From left are Rowdy Parrott of Sacred Heart, Ville Platte (rookie steer wrestling, rookie team roping); J.D. Hebert of Iota High (rookie team roping); Mason Laviolette of Rayne High (runner-up all-around cowboy, third place saddle bronco, fourth place bareback); Jake Hebert of Iota High (saddle bronco riding champion and all-around cowboy); Taylor Broussard of Notre Dame (rookie all-around cowboy, second place bareback, first place rookie bareback and first place rookie saddle bronco) and Will Hetzel of Hathaway (boy’s cutting champion, first go-round and second go-round average). They will be competing as part of the Louisiana team in the National High School Finals Rodeo, held July 19, to 25, in Farmington, New Mexico. The national championship features over 1,500 contestants from 41 states, five Canadian Provinces and Australia, the National High School Finals is the world’s largest rodeo. In addition to competing for over $200,000 in prizes, contestants will also be vying for more than $325,000 in college scholarships and the chance to be named the National High School Rodeo National Championship. To earn this title, contestants must finish in the top 20 after two go-rounds of intense competition before advancing to Saturday night’s final championship performance.
