Acadia VFC Night Club hosts meeting

Acadia Volunteers for Family and Community Council met on January 21, 2009 in the Acadia LSU AgCenter conference room in Crowley with President

Elaine Chatagnier presiding. Gloria Gaspard led in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag; Club Collect was led by JoAnn Dupuis. Secretary Rosie Trahan reported all voting delegates present and a total of fourteen members were in attendance. The minutes of the previous meeting was given by the President.

Treasurer Diana Francis presented the financial statement and 2009 Budget for approval. AVFC Executive Board met prior to the Council meeting at 9:30 a.m. and approved the agenda for the council meeting.

Wilma LeJeune, Iota VFC member, showed the quilt block she makes for the Quilts of Valor project and offered directions for anyone interested.

Quilts of Valor is a project of the Happy Scrappers Quilting Guild in Jennings. “These quilts are provided for soldiers wounded in Iraq which gives much comfort to these soldiers since they come from home”, she said.

The following reports were heard: Fall Luncheon and the Roberts Cove VFC hosted - JoAnn Dupuis reported 45 people attended - 39 members and 6 guests.

Josie Thevis and JoAnn donated homemade items for gifts for guests.

Membership: Diana reported 49 members which includes 2 new members. VFC Literacy: Ruth Ann Klumpp reported having presented the layette items to Baby Minix, the first baby born during that week.

Rice Cookery: Adrianne Vidrine said the event was successful. USA Rice Federation, sponsors of the event, provided $2500 for premiums and supplies. Celebrate the Flavors of Rice: This event will be held every three years instead of annually.

New Business items were as follows: State Board and Biennial Training: The dates are January 27 and 28 at Tall Timbers Conference Center. Training is for parish officers and educational chairmen, however, club officers are welcome.

Achievement Day:

Night Club will host this year’s event which will be held May 20. Achievement day planning committee will meet February 9 at 3:30 p.m. at the State Convention:

Chatagnier reminded members that 2009 LVFC convention will be held in New Iberia on April 21-23, 2009. The 2009-2010 LVFC president’s new theme is Commitment To Action.

Arbor Day: Decided to replant a tree in honor of Mae Zaunbrecher at the Iota School.

Chatagnier went over reports and scholarship applications and submission dates. Strawberry sale fund raiser will be held in April.

Family Life Chairman, Mary Ann Sagrera, reported 9 people having submitted CVU hours. JoAnn Dupuis, Roberts Cove VFC President, reported approximately 1,000 hats for cancer patients were sewn and given to cancer clinics. A workshop to sew these hats is scheduled for February 16 at 9:30 a.m. at Roberts Cove Annex. Dupuis said that the Character Counts program is being presented by Myrtle and Willietta Servat in Rayne to approximately 50 students.

Meeting adjourned and members enjoyed a light lunch prepared by Iota VFC members.
