CROWLEY - According to recent reports, Eric Manuel, 22, who was arrested Wednesday for alleged sexual misconduct with a 15-year-old Kaplan boy, once worked as a volunteer for Notre Dame High School until he was let go for texting and Facebooking students.
According to one student who wished to remain anonymous, he went on a joint missionary trip with St. Thomas More High School in Lafayette and Notre Dame to Costa Rica. During the trip which was taken during the Easter vacation of 2011 for both schools he made video recordings of the missionary trip.
This past year’s trip was the first time that Notre Dame High School and St. Thomas More High School went on the missionary trip together. Notre Dame usually goes on the trip with their students alone.
When contacted Friday, Notre Dame officials said that the Diocese of Lafayette has requested that no statements be released while the investigation is ongoing.
However, according to a statement from St. Thomas More Principal Audrey Menard on Thursday she was ‘shocked’ to hear the allegations against Manuel and that ‘he was known as a talented videographer.’
It is unknown what school the 15-year-old victim attended.
The Crowley Post-Signal will have more on this story as details become available.
