Alcohol sales sting targets selling to underage
A week before high school graduations, after receiving numerous complaints of local package liquor stores selling alcohol to persons under the age of 21, the Eunice City Marshal’s Office and the Juvenile Division of the Eunice Police Department conducted a sting operation, nabbing 13 persons on illegal sales charges.
Two male subjects under the age of 21 were sent into these businesses last Friday night to attempt to purchase alcohol.
Fourteen businesses were checked. Only one, SNC Minimart did not sell alcohol to the minors; 13 of the businesses did sell illegally to the minors, according to Marshal Terry Darbonne.
All of the employees that sold alcohol were later issued a summons for unlawful sales of alcohol to persons under 21 and given a court date.
The sting operation, labeled “Spring Cleaning”, was intended to make employers aware of the problem that some employees were selling alcohol to persons under the age of 21.
None of the businesses were cited.
