Alcohol suspected in two-driver fatal crash
Early Sunday morning, April 5, Louisiana State Troop L was investigating a two-driver fatal crash that took place on LA 16, two miles west of LA 63 in St. Helena Parish. A 2005 Ford pickup driven by Jennifer Adams of Zachary was traveling westbound on Hwy. 16 and a 2008 Jeep driven by Steve Trege of Baton Rouge was traveling eastbound on LA 16. The Ford, driven by Adams crossed over the centerline on the roadway and entered the eastbound lane crashing headon into the Jeep. Upon impact, the vehicles rotated counter-clockwise, the Ford came to rest in the westbound lane and the Jeep came to rest ton the eastbound shoulder.
The driver of the Ford pickup, Jennifer Adams of Zachary, was pronounced dead at the scene by Dr. Varnado of the St. Helena Coroner’s Office, due to injuries sustained in the crash. Alcohol is suspected for Adams; blood was obtained and was submitted for analysis.
The Ford’s two passengers, James Bolten, of Livingston, and Aaron Glimmer, of Walker, was transported to Acadian to Ochsner Hospital for medical treatment for moderate injuries. Seat belts were not used by the occupants in the crash.
The driver of the Jeep, Steve Trege, Baton Rouge was transported to Ochsner Hospital in Baton Rouge for severe injuries, and once at Ochsner, Tregre was pronounced dead by Dr. Nguyen due to injuries from the crash.
At the time wreck, Tregre was wearing his seatbelt. Alcohol is also suspected for Tregre; blood was obtained and submitted for analysis.
