Ambrose Joseph Olinger
A Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Leo IV Catholic Church in Roberts Cove at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 18, 2009 for Ambrose Joseph Olinger, 85,
who died at his home on Saturday May 16, 2009.
Rev. Kevin Bordelon, pastor of St. Leo IV Catholic Church, conducted the services with Rev. Richard Wagner con-celebrating.
Burial was in St. Leo IV Catholic Cemetery.
Mr. Olinger was born on June 26, 1923, in Roberts Cove, the son of Edward and Josephine Dischler Olinger.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II attaining the rank of sergeant. He was a lifelong resident of Roberts Cove and established Olinger Repair Service. He was a rice farmer and enjoyed woodworking. Mr. Olinger was an active member of St. Leo IV Church Parish and he enjoyed working on projects at the church and for the Germanfest Association.
He was a member of Knights of Columbus #1897, St. Leo Holy Name Society, American Legion Arceneaux Post 77 and the Roberts Cove Germanfest Association.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Margaret L. Olinger; and six children, Charlene O. Reynolds and husband Mike, Gerard Olinger and wife Debbie, Dale Olinger, Susan Olinger, all of Roberts Cove, Laura O. Ledkins of Aurora, Co., John Olinger and wife Leslie of Crowley; ten grandchildren, Mark Olinger, Matthew Olinger, Paul Olinger and wife Arisa, Lucy R. Philip and husband Vivek, Mary Reynolds, Claire Reynolds, H. N. Daniel Reynolds, USN, John Reynolds, Sara Reynolds and Wynn Olinger: two brothers, Hilary Olinger and Ray Olinger; three sisters, Beatrice O. Leoards, Rose Marie O. John and Mary Jo Olinger.
Mr. Olinger was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Josephine D. Olinger; one sister, Irene O. Petitjean; and a son-in-law, Bill Ledkins.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be sent to St. Leo IV Catholic Church or Hospice of Acadiana.
Friends were received from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Sunday, May 17, and from 8:00 a.m. until services Monday, May 18, 2009, at Gossen Funeral Home, Inc., Rayne.
