American Legion Post No. 77 Spelling Bee Winners
SPELLING BEE WINNERS were declared after the 30th annual competition, hosted by American Legion Post No. 77, on Saturday for grades sixth through eighth and Rayne High.
Sixth grade winners, first row from left, are Erykah Price, RCE, first; Nicholas Moore, RCE, second; Calby Espree, AMS, third; Logan Habetz, RCE, fourth; and Alan Zaunbrecher, Branch, fifth; seventh graders, second row, Bailey Melancon, Mire, first; Elizabeth Robichaux, RCE, second; Richie Cormier, Branch, third; Matthew Touchette, AMS, fourth; and Iam Sturgis, Mire, fifth; eighth graders, third row, Curt Petitjean, RCE, first; Brent Dedier, RCE, second; Alyson Henry, RCE, third Mollie Gossen, RCE, fourth; and Blake Bellard, Branch, fifth; and RHS winners, MaRae Courvelle, first; Tyler Bonnet, second place; and Devon Vallery, third place. Rayne Catholic was declared the team champions, followed by Mire Elementary, AMS and Branch Elementary. Joining the youthful spellers were RCE’s coach Margarite Hoskins, holding the team trophy, and Americanism Chairman Rodney Trahan, on the left, and Legionnaires Bill Sturgis and Raymond Thevis, on the right.
