Amite Chamber of Commerce hosts political forum
The Amite Chamber of Commerce meeting for September brought three Amite candidates before attendees in a political forum. Each candidate was given four minutes to present their platform, five minutes to answer questions and then 30 seconds to respond to their opponents answers.
The first candidate was Amite Police Chief Jerry Trabona. Trabona's opponent Bobby Phares was unable to attend. The second candidate was Amite Mayor Reggie Goldsby followed by opponent Charles "Boo" Christmas. Each candidate presented their background and plans for the future.
All three were questions on their specific plans of action for Amite. Mayoral candidates were questioned about matters such as traffic flow, the possibility of a public transportation system and the condition of downtown Amite. Chief Trabona was questioned on matters such as control of litter and drugs in the area.
In other business the Amite Chamber of Commerce discussed:
• Amite foundry has been purchased by a company out of Australia and now boast the name Bradken. Future changes may occur.
• Bon Appétit will be held October 16th. For further information contact the Chamber office.
