Amite Town Council finally adopts budget
The Amite Town Council met to set their agenda for their agenda for the Tuesday, December 2 regular meeting. During this meeting the council also had the proposed budget fiscal year ending June 30, 2009.
The council discussed the budget for a great deal of time. Councilman Walter Daniels stated that he wanted an opinion from the Attorney General. Mayor Reggie Goldsby stated to Daniels after discussion that the council could pass the budget then make the changes they want.
At that point the council decided to pass the budget and plan to make amendments to the budget at the next meeting. Daniels then made a motion for a raise from 5% to 10% for the police department for everyone. Councilmen Buddy Till, Mark Vining, and Rose Sumrall all abstained. Councilmen Daniels and Jonathan Foster voted yes. The motion failed.
The motion was also made for the street department to go from a 5% raise to a 10%. Councilmen Till, Vining, and Sumrall all abstained and Councilmen Daniels and Foster voted yes. The motion failed.
The last motion brought up was Councilman Foster proposed that $40,000 be placed in each district. Councilman Till abstained from the vote and Councilmen Vining, Sumrall, Daniels and Foster voted yes.
Other amendments can be made in the future.
