Annual ‘Christmas in Crowley’ set
Each year, Crowley’s holiday celebrations get bigger and better — and 2013 will be no different.
Announced Friday, the city of Crowley will once again be hosting its Christmas in Crowley: A Holiday Affair. The Wednesday, Dec. 4, event will be the fifth annual celebration.
“This year, it was very heartwarming, people were actually calling me to make sure they could still be involved,” said Crowley Tourism Coordinator Charlotte Jeffers. “It’s a good thing that people want to be part of it. The people of Crowley have really taken it to heart.
“I’d like to thank everyone that wants to participate each year, not everyone has the time or money to do so.”
The event, which features free admission begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m., is sure to get all attendees in the holiday spirit. Scheduled to appear are local church and school choirs and Santa Claus for pictures. There will also be a live nativity, children’s activities and participation from local merchants, civic groups, churches and schools.
The event, with stops all along Historic Parkerson Avenue, also is a great opportunity for the city to show off its historic buildings.
“It shows all the improvements we made and most of the merchants have joined in on decorating,” said Jeffers. “Crowley has really been put on the forefront thanks to events like this and the event is not only great for showing the beauty of the Christmas season, but it’s an economic boost for this area.
“We have people come from out of town and even from out of state to see the lights.”
Part of Christmas in Crowley: A Holiday Affair is also the Music to Lights Spectacular, which will begin at 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, and run through midnight each night through Friday, Jan. 3, 2014.
While the event is free entry, certain items will be for sale by the participating groups.
