Anthony Campbell facing multiple drug, traffic charges after arrest
Chief Carroll Stelly announces that on Saturday, Sept. 24, Rayne police officers arrested Anthony Lee Campbell, 40, for possession with intent to distribute of cocaine hydrochloride, possession with intent to distribute MDMA, and multiple traffic violations.
Chief Stelly advises Anthony Campbell has been arrested numerous times on prior drug violations and is considered a habitual mid-level drug offender.
Campbell was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo when he was observed by Rayne police officers violating several traffic laws.
The officers initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and due to behavioral clues of the suspect, came to believe that narcotics could be concealed within the vehicle.
A subsequent search located a large amount of opiate narcotics within the vehicle. During the detailed search, officers located cocaine hydrochloride concealed within a compartment within the trunk.
Rayne police officers also located numerous MDMA tablets, which are commonly known on the street as ecstasy.
Anthony Campbell was booked into the Rayne Police Department on several drug and traffic violations.
Chief Stelly said, “Anthony Campbell is a major trafficker of narcotics into Rayne and his arrest will greatly affect the flow of drugs into our community. Anthony is currently out on bond for prior felony offenses. We are working closely with the Acadia Parish District Attorney’s Office to address the habitual felony offenders to get the appropriate jail sentences consistent with the level of the criminal activity.”
