Area students graduate from Youth Challenge

The Louisiana National Guard Youth Challenge Program at Camp Minden in Minden graduated 197 cadets, including two local youths, Saturday, Jan. 22. The ceremony took place at the Shreveport Municipal Auditorium in Shreveport. This graduation signifies the completion of the five and a half month residential phase of the program.

U.S. Senator Mary L. Landrieu was a guest speaker at the ceremony. Also in attendance was Chief of the National Guard Bureau, General Craig R. McKinley and Maj. General Bennett C. Landreneau, adjutant general of the LA National Guard.

Among the graduates were Donavon S. King of Duson and Keith J. Bourque of Church Point.

Bourque achieved a cadet’s highest rank of five stars and enlisted in the National Guard. He will receive free college tuition to the state college of his choice.
