The Ville Platte Police Department is investigating an armed robbery, which occurred Tuesday, and are hoping residents passing on Main Street may have information.

Lt. John B. “Chip” Matte Jr. said the suspect reportedly walked up and down Main Street prior to the robbery from the information the department has received. He said someone may have recognized the man.

Chief Neal Lartigue is hoping someone in the area may have information in this case. He is urging residents to report any information they may have to his department. He said all callers will remain anonymous.

The robbery occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 6, in the 100 block of E. Main Street at Security Finance. A description of the suspect was released to the local media immediately. The man, believed to be black, wore a gray hooded sweatshirt or jacket with a hat and light blue jeans. He is believed to be approximately 5’8” to 5’10” in height and 200 pounds. He had a black mask and produced a handgun when he demanded money from the employees.

“The victims cooperated and he left without incident,” Matte said. “No one was hurt.”

The direction of travel was unknown because the armed robber made the employees lay down on the floor.
