Attakapas Study Club conducts September meeting
The Attakapas Study Club of Crowley met on September 10 at 2:30 p.m. at the home of Dot Simon. Fourteen
members were present including Ella Bertrand, Jackie Buescher, Katharine Cowen, Jan Erbe, Jerrie Fontenot, Shirley Griffin, Zulah Hoffpauir, Gerry Meche, Jean Oubre, Mae Prather, Joanna Pruitt, Dot Simon, Ethel Thibodeaux and Roy Lynn Trahan.
The president, Ethel Thibodeaux called the meeting to order. The club collect and Pledge of Allegiance was led
by parliamentarian, Joanna Pruitt. The secretary, Gerry Meche read the minutes of the previous meeting and they were approved. Treasurer, Zulah Hoffpauir presented the treasure’s report and Ethel Thibodeaux named the committees for the upcoming year, and Dot Simon reported on planned programs.
Shirley Griffin showed the book which has been donated to the Acadia Parish in memory of deceased club member Linda Gall, entitled “Guarded by angels” (Memoirs of a Dutch Youth) written by Alard B. Ages.
After a short discussion of business, Shirley Griffin and Dot Simon presented a very interesting and informative program on Nova Scotia. They took separate trips to Nova Scotia in 2007, but their paths crossed while they were there. Shirley spoke about Nova Scotia and Dot spoke of her experiences while visiting Prince Edward Island. During the program they used maps, books, photographs and a painting done by Shirley to enhance their presentations.
Concluding the presentation the meeting was adjourned and attending members enjoyed refreshments served by hostesses, Katharine Cowen and Zulah Hoffpauir.
