Attakapas Study Club meets
CROWLEY - The Attakapas Study Club of Crowley met on October 13, 2010 at the home of Dot Simon.
There were ten members and three guests present. Members attending were, Erma Breaux, Jackie Buescher, Jerrie Fontenot, Shirley Griffin, Gerry Meche, Jean Oubre, Joanna Pruitt, Dot Simon, Ethel Thibodeaux and Roy Lynn Trahan; and guests were, Lucille “Shockey” Miers, Lou Higginbotham and Sandy Melancon, who was also guest speaker for the day.
The president, Ethel Thibodeaux, called the meeting to order and asked Parliamentarian Joanna Pruitt to lead in the Club Collect and the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. Gerry Meche, secretary, called the roll and read the minutes of the September meeting. The treasurer, Jackie Buescher, presented the treasurer’s report. Dot Simon, program chairman, gave a report on plans for upcoming programs. Erma Breaux, courtesy committee chairman, gave a report from that committee.
The business meeting was adjourned and Ethel Thibodeaux welcomed the guests and introduced them to the members. The program was then turned over to Sandy Melancon who presented a very interesting and informative program entitled “Preparing for the Fourth Quarter.” She discussed ways of preparing financially for the later years in life. She gave her audience a printed handout which had the information she told about and many more useful hints. She also answered questions raised by those present. Sandy was thanked by members and guests and Jackie Buescher presented her with a small gift from the club in appreciation of her time and effort.
Members and guests enjoyed delicious refreshments prepared and served by hostesses, Jean Oubre, Shirley Griffin and Dot Simon.
