Baby, pet contest winners announced
The parents of Ja’irus Elijah Brown said when it comes to taking a picture of their six month old baby, Ja’irus, it’s easy because he is always smiling.
Ja’rius was all smiles when he took his Christmas photo, which is what helped him win the Abbeville Meridional’s third annual Christmas Baby Photo Contest.
Ja’rius had a Santa hat but it was his smile and pose that persuaded judges to pick him over 65 other babies.
He wins a gift certificate from Earl’s Baby Land in Nunez.
His parents, Jade and Jonathan Brown, were excited to hear their son won.
“He is always smiling, said Jade. “If you cough, he will smile.”
The hardest part about entering the baby contest for the Browns was not getting a good pose from their son, but choosing which photo to submit to the Meridional.
“There were two others,” she said. “When I took the picture, I could not wait bring it in.”
His photo ran with a group of 10 other babies in the Meridional on Dec. 2. Jade said she walked into a convenience store in Abbeville and saw his picture cut out and taped up behind the counter. It made her proud.
Ja’rius is the youngest of five children.
Winning the pet contest is a Chihuahua named Bruiser, who belongs to Connie Connor of Abbevile. Bruiser was dressed in a Santa outfit.
By winning the contest, Bruiser won a $20 gift certificate from All Dogs Grooming in Abbeville.
