Bad news, Bears, there may be a bomb in building

A bomb threat called in at Church Point High School ended a game that may have been the Bears’ first win of the season.

The Church Point High boys basketball team is off to a rocky 0-21 start to the season. The team was on the verge of their first victory when according to police, a bomb threat was called in using a pre-paid cellular phone.

The gym was evacuated and bomb sniffing canines was brought to the scene. Once the dog arrived from Lafayette every vehicle in the parking lot had to be checked prior to game attendees leaving.

The two teams will match up again later in the season to name a winner of the suspended game.

Police Chief Albert Venable is confident the person will be apprehended and prosecuted.
