Bears, Bulldogs grab key wins

The Church Point Bears and the Iota Bulldogs both picked up key wins Friday night in the final non-district games of the season.
Church Point (4-1) broke open a close 14-7 halftime lead and rolled to a 2807 win over previously undefeated Erath.
Von Duplechin scored twice and finished with 100 yards on 15 carries for the Bears.
Bruce Citizen gained 48 yards on 10 carries including a 15-yard touchdown run, while Joseph Carrier led the Bears with 122 yards on the night.
Erath quarterback Chris Tyson was limited to 60 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. Tyson was 7-of-12 with an interception and 41 yards passing in the loss.
Church Point hosts Northwest Friday in the District 5-3A opener.
Iota 21, North Vermilion 8
Iota (4-1) grabbed a 12-0 first quarter lead and the Bulldogs cruised to a 21-8 win over North Vermilion.
Blaise Lejeune scored on runs of 5 and 8 yards to open the game and finished with 94 yards rushing on 14 carries.
Jeremy Ryder scored on a 2-yard run for North Vermilion (2-2) but the Bulldogs responded with a 2-yard touchdown run from Chad Abshire.
Iota closed the scoring with a 30-yard field goal by Trenton Pickett in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Iota travels to Jena on Friday in the District 4-3A opener for the Bulldogs.
