A talented Bell City Lady Bruin squad was just too much for the young Lake Arthur Lady Tigers this past Friday evening, January 9, 2009 in the Wilbert C. “Nooky” Moore Gymnasium, winning impressively by a final count of 55-35 in a non-district basketball contest.

The Lady Bruins used superior shooting skills and fundamentals in racing out to a quick 17-6 lead in the opening stanza and increased the margin to 27-12 at the halftime break.

Bell City continued its dominance in second half, winning the third quarter 11-7 and the fourth 17-10 in taking the 55-35 decision.

Lake Arthur was beaten badly on the boards by the Lady Bruins, who had numerous second and third shots on the offensive end of the court.

The Lady Tigers did show tremendous hustle throughout the contest, diving on the floor for loose basketballs and playing good defense for most of the game.

Keyontae Campbell was the offensive star on this night for Lake Arthur, as she pumped in 12 points. Carly Hay had nine, while teammate Devyn Trahan added six tallies. Kadie Bonin contributed four, while Ashalun Brown and Samantha LeJeune each added a pair of points for the Lady Tigers. Morgan Hay hit one of two free throws to round out the Lake Arthur scoring.

Lyndsey Fontenot led Bell City with 26 points, while teammates Holly Guidry and Ashley Chaumont each had 13.

With the loss, Lake Arthur fell to 3-12 on the season, while Bell City improved to 20-8 with the win.
