Two players with LSUE ties were selected in the 2008 Major League baseball draft.
Bengal outfielder Delta Cleary was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 37th round, while former LSUE pitcher and present University of Southern Mississippi junior starting pitcher Josh Billeaud was taken by the Chicago White Sox as the 540th overall pick in the 18th round.
Cleary has several options including return for his sophomore season, transfer to a Division I program or sign with the Rockies and begin his career in the minor leagues.
Cleary was named a JUCO All-American this past season and will be playing on a JUCO all-star team that will take on an all-star squad from Taiwan later this month in Millington, Tenn.
Cleary hit .408 last year at Eunice, with a school record 82 RBI and tied the reord with 32 stolen bases.
He also won a JUCO gold glove for his play in the field.
Billeaud was taken in the 2007 draft in the 21st round by the Kansas City Royals.
In 2008 with the Golden Eagles, Billeaud was 4-4 and pitched his best game of the season in his final start against UNO in an elimination game of the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional earning a spot on the All-Regional team.
