Bertrand and Nelson are united in marriage

Stacey Lynn Bertrand and Benjamin Gerard Nelson, Jr. became man and wife during a wedding ceremony Saturday, April 25, 2009. The 7:00 p.m. ceremony at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Abbeville was officiated by Father Kenneth Mayne.

Stacey is the daughter of Deborah and Steven Bertrand of Abbeville. She is the granddaughter of Helen Bertrand and the late Sidney P. Bertrand of Abbeville; and of Ms. Theresa Choate of Abbeville and the late Ronald R. Lyons.

Benjamin is the son of Cathy and Benjamin Nelson, Sr. of Erath. He is the grandson of Mr. Luma Nelson of Coteau and the late Thelma Nelson.; and of Mrs. Gracie Zenon of Abbeville and the late Eldridge Zenon, Sr.

Escorted by her father, Steven Bertrand, the bride wore a strapless, A-line gown made of diamond white satin with a corset back. The gown featured an elegant lace overlay on the bodice that created an asymmetrical lowered waist. A satin empire band sprinkled with crystals accented the bodice. The satin skirt was embellished with gentle folds of fabric that were upswept at the side revealing a lace hem. Finally, lace applique’s adorned the chapel length train.

The bride’s dress was accessorized by a tiara made of a rhinestone floral design, and a two-tiered, diamond white veil with a satin corded finish.

Her bouquet was created into an elegant cascade of Cymbidium orchids that was accented with Dendrobium orchids.

Serving in the wedding as the Maid of Honor was Brandy Duhon, niece of the bride. Bridesmaids for the event included Tabitha Duhon, sister of the bride; Lena Nelson, sister of the groom; Nanci Martin, friend of the bride; and Roxie Lancon, friend of the bride.

The Bridesmaids wore black strapless floor-length dresses that were ruched under the bodice in an A-line iridescent chiffon that was accented with fuchsia satin. They carried a garden cluster of stargazers accented with pink heather, baronia and calcinia.

The Flower girls for the wedding were Breanna Maldanado, godchild of the bride and Haley Zenon, godchild of the groom. The miniature bride, Joli Maliyah Nelson, was the daughter of the bride and groom.

Serving in the wedding as the Best Man was Duston Nelson, cousin of the groom. Groomsmen for the event included Micah Bertrand, brother of the bride; Chad Zenon, cousin of the groom; Derrek Nelson, cousin of the groom; and Chris Trahan, friend of the groom.

Ushers for the wedding included Jacob Nelson, cousin of the groom; Joey Nelson; cousin of the groom; Kristian Castagnola, cousin of the groom; and Adrian Castagnola, cousin of the groom.

Music for the ceremony was provided by Davlon Rost, vocalist; Jude Gaspard, piano and trumpet; and Robin Hochkeppel, saxophone.

Readings were given by Myra Castagnola, aunt of the groom; and Matilde Nelson, aunt of the groom.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at St. Theresa’s Holy Family Center. After a wedding trip to Disney World, the couple plan to reside in Abeville.
