Blood drives planned, residents can donate in Fontenot’s name
Three blood drives are planned for this area and residents can donate blood in Jody “Weelo” Fontenot’s name.
Weelo was injured in a farming accident Thursday, September 25. Organizers said employees will have the information necessary to make the donation.
United Blood Services will be conducting the drives at the following sites:
•Ville Platte Medical Center Tuesday, September 23, from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Bloodmobile.
•Ville Platte Lower Thursday, September 25, from 12:30 to 4 p.m. in the Bloodmobile.
•Our Lady Queen of All Saints Sunday, September 28, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Family Life Center.
As a result of the recent hurricanes, United Blood Services if facing a critical shortage on all blood types. The public is urged to help stock our shelves and to continue to replenish the blood supply, Christina Duhon, local coordinator, said.
Volunteer blood donors must be at least 16 years of age, weigh at least 100 pounds and be in good health. Additional health/weight requirements apply to donors 22 and younger. Donors who are 16 must have signed permission from a parent or guardian. Each donor receives a pre-donation interview.
Donors will need ID and are encouraged to sign up for an appointment online at www.United BloodServices.org. (Click on the schedule a “blood donation appointment” link.) Donors can also call 235-LIFE (5433).
