Breaux Bridge, St. Martinville girls win spots in playoff

The Breaux Bridge Tigers tightened their grip on the No. 2 spot in District 5-4A while staying within striking distance of league-leading Teurling Catholic with wins over district foes Beau Chene and Opelousas last week.

Coach Kyle Cormier’s Tigers improved to 6-1 in league play with the 1-0 win over Beau Chene and a 15-2 rout of Opelousas. The Bridge now stands at 15-5 overall.

Things didn’t go nearly as well for the Cecilia Bulldogs in their 6-3A campaign, with the Bulldogs falling to Catholic of New Iberia (7-2) and Kaplan in a 15-9 slugfest that saw a total of four home runs.

The losses leave the ’Dogs with an 11-13, 4-5 worksheet.

There was no report on the St. Martinville-Abbeville contest played on April 14, and the Tigers dropped their April 16 game to Beau Chene by a score of 6-3.

Saturday’s schedule was rained out.

Breaux Bridge wraps up regular season action (except for makeups) on Thursday at St. Martinville while Cecilia visits North Vermilion.

The ’Ville and the Bulldogs close our their regular schedules on Saturday, with the Tigers visiting Opelousas and Cecilia hosting Catholic of New Iberia.
