Broussard: Elementary School Teacher of the Year
The 2008-2009 Vermilion Parish Elementary Teacher of the Year is Stacy Broussard, who is a 13-year teaching veteran.
She is a currently a third grade teacher at Dozier Elementary in Erath.
She has taught for 13 years in the Vermilion Parish School System, with nine years of experience at Dozier.
She said teachers “are the foundation for all other careers.”
Her principal, Liz Gremillion characterizes her as an “excellent teacher” whose zest for teaching radiates enthusiasm and joy for learning. “She is a positive influence on the faculty,” Gremillion added.
Broussard is willing to share her wealth of knowledge with her peers through district staff development sessions and monthly study group sessions.
Broussard said elementary teachers lay the foundation for future academic growth and stated, “As teachers, we need to encourage students to pursue their dreams and build upon their strengths. It is our job to fill the gaps when students enter our classrooms.”
She added teachers must address individual learning styles. She tries to present the material in a variety of ways by using peer tutors, listening centers, interactive games and activities, hands-on manipulation and a variety of technology resources and tools.
As a quality educator, Broussard said, “I may not change the world, but I can make a world of change in the life of a child.”
