Broussard finally new tax assessor
Finally - after 14 months of waiting - Kathy Broussard is the new Vermilion Parish tax assessor.
Today, at 4:30 p.m. on the second floor of the Courthouse, Broussard will be sworn in as the new assessor.
She was elected as the assessor 14 months ago but could not take office until the start of 2009.
Until then, she has remained as the Chief Deputy of the Assessor’s Office.
Out-going tax assessor Mike Langlinais held the post from 1991 to 2008. His last day on the job was Dec. 31, 2008.
Broussard moved into her new office on Monday. She is the first female to occupy that office.
After 31 years of working in the tax assessor’s office, she is now sitting in her new officeas the boss lady.
“After 31 years of being on the other side, I am having to get used to this,” Broussard said. “It’s feeling pretty good. Everyone has been so cooperative. It’s a good thing.”
When Broussard walked into her new office Monday, Langlinais had the office cleared. Gone were his deer and duck mounts off the wall, along with pictures.
She plans to repaint the office in the near future.
The tax assessor office will be without a chief deputy for a while. Broussard said she has no plans to name one anytime soon.
