Burglary suspects arrested
Two people have been arrested in connection with a series of burglaries in Delhi.
Richland Parish Sheriff Charles McDonald said a break came in the burglaries when DARE Officer Sam Hesser stopped a subject walking in an area where several burglaries had occurred. Upon field interviewing the subject, the suspect became nervous and uncooperative. Officer Hesser called Investigator Roy Williams to his location where they further interviewed him and found him to have a stolen GPS system in his pocket.
Deputies then arrested Richard L. Myles, 21, of 312 First St., Delhi, for possession of stolen things and resisting by false information.
After further investigation by Chief Investigator Frank Jones, Investigator Roy Williams, Investigator Gary Gilley of the Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office and Lt. Mitchell Jackson of the Delhi Police Department, another subject was identified as Byron Bevyon Mardale Smith, 21, of 613 Main St., Delhi, as also being involved in the burglaries. Smith was arrested on three counts of burglary and five counts of burglary were added to Myles’ previous charges.
Both subjects were booked into the Richland Parish Detention Center with no bond set at this time.
Some, but not all of the items taken in the burglaries, were recovered, including purses, two guns, a digital camera and GPS system.
Chief Deputy Terry Thompson said that Sheriff Charles McDonald had assigned extra officers to patrol the heavily hit areas over the last several weeks and it paid off.
