Cajuns eliminated from conference tourney – Chad Edwards tossed a complete game shutout as Middle Tennessee claimed a 3-0 victory over Louisiana in an elimination game at the 2010 Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

The Ragin’ Cajuns (37-20) were eliminated from the SBC Tournament with a 0-2 record. UL now waits to learn if it will earn a berth in the NCAA Regionals.

The loss marks the first time that the Cajuns lost back-to-back games since the first half of the season (pre-April 6). During their second half run of 23 wins in 27 games the Cajuns were without consecutive losses.

The Blue Raiders (35-22) avenged a three-game sweep at the hands of UL in the regular season and improved to 10-2 all-time against the Cajuns in the SBC Tournament.

The Cajuns were put into the elimination game after dropping an 8-6 decision to Arkansas State on Wednesday in their tournament opener.

Zach Osborne turned in his 13th quality start of the season lasting 6 1/3 innings and allowing only two earned runs. Edwards matched him by not allowing a multiple-hit inning and tossing only 95 pitches.

Both pitchers zipped through the first two innings, posting zeros and stranding multiple runners.

A solo home run by Blake McDade in the third inning plated the first run – and what proved to be the game winner – for the Blue Raiders.

In the fourth and the fifth innings Osborne and Roberts went after it again, holding the hitters to a combined one hit.

UL got a one-out single from Chad Keefer in the sixth inning, but a double play ball off the bat of Tyler Frederick prevented a possible threat.

A throwing error which allowed Bryce Brentz to reach base in the bottom of the sixth inning would cost the Cajuns an unearned run and MT was up 2-0.

A balk issued to Ryland Parker in the bottom of the seventh inning pushed across the final run of the game.

Louisiana would not get a runner past second base in its final two at bats.

Taylor Hubbell pitched the final 1 1/3 innings for the Cajuns getting bases-loaded fly out from Justin Guidry to wrap up the seventh and retiring the side in the eighth. Hubbell extended his consecutive scoreless innings streak to 10 1/3 dating back to the May 16 Western Kentucky relief appearance.
