Calcasieu oysters deemed unsafe

LAKE CHARLES- The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals has closed oyster grounds in lower Calcasieu Lake for fear that oysters in the area are linked to a norovirus outbreak in North Carolina, they announced recently.

Over the next week, health officials will work to evaluate oyster beds throughout the area and will reopen fishing grounds when the oysters are deemed safe to eat.
