MPE welcomes 99 Leader In Me visitors

99 guests prepare to visit and learn more of the Leader In Me Program at Martin Petitjean Elementary.

Martin Petitjean Elementary welcomed 99 guests and visitors on Friday, May 2, for a Leadership Day program when teachers, principals and school representatives from around the state visited the school and observed MPE’s Leader In Me program.

Last year, MPE was acknowledged and presented a Leader In Me “Lighthouse School” award, the first in the state of Louisiana.

Visitors were treated to a “Big Rocks Tour” where they were free to visit any of the sites on the school campus. At those sites, students were available at the locations to answer any questions.

Rock locations included:

Front of the Building/Office Area - Todd the Tardy Toad, Leadership Lounge, Awards, Lighthouse Binders, Work Showcase, PAWsome Wall (Positive Referral Winners), Bus Calling/Announcement Leaders, and Plant Leader. 

Commons Area: Menu/Bone Leader, PAWSitive Students (PAWS Students of the Month), Vocabulary Sentence Board, Commitment/Heart Wall, Drug-Free Board, Litter Leaders, Bench Buddies, and Jump Drive Leaders.

Grade Level Scoreboards: 1st grade in east wing, 2nd grade in east and west wings, 3rd Grade in west wing, in addition to AR reading program, 7 Habits Work, Behavior, and Mission Statement.

The agenda for the program included the weekly Synergy Assembly in the commons area, followed by a question and answer session, classroom visits, student-led conferences in cafeteria school tour and student panel in commons area, Big Rocks school tour when attendees moved freely around the building to visit areas of interest with students available for questions.

Jump drives created by second and third grade students, were presented to each visitor by Jump Drive Leaders in commons area, followed by lunch.

The seven habits observed by MPE students for the Leader In Me program are: Habit 1 - Be Proactive, You’re in charge; Habit 2 - Begin With the End in Mind, Have a plan; Habit 3 - Put First Things First, Work first, then play; Habit 4 - Think Win-Win and everyone can win; Habit 5 - Seek First to Understand, Then be Understood,  Listen before you talk; Habit 6 - Synergize, Together is better; Habit 7 - Sharpen the Saw, Balance feels best!
