Carnival d’Acadie schedule set
CROWLEY – Mardi Gras season is officially underway and the city of Crowley is ready to celebrate.
The 2012 Carnival d’Acadie schedule of events and entertainment has been finalized and the city of Crowley expects this year’s festivities to as fun as ever.
Carnival rides will be available Sunday and Monday nights as well as Tuesday throughout the day. Ticket prices for rides are $1 for one ticket, $18 for 20 tickets and $30 for 40 tickets. Rides take two, three or four tickets each. Armbands for $15 are available and have certain hours as well.
Sunday’s carnival ride hours are 5-10 p.m. (armband, 5-9 p.m.), Monday 5-11 p.m. (armband, 5-9 p.m.) and Tuesday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. (armband, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., no armbands after parade).
As for the festival itself, it will officially open at 6:15 p.m. on Lundi Gras (Feb. 20) with a welcome from Mayor Greg Jones. Damon Troy & the Final Five will take the stage to entertain 6:30-9 p.m. and Horace Trahan & the Ossun Express will follow at 9:30 p.m. and will close the festival at 11 p.m.
Mardi Gras day (Feb. 21) will be a very busy and fun day for festival goers. Activities begin at 11 a.m. with a costume contest that lasts until 12:30 p.m. Door decorating contest winners will be announced from 12:30-1 p.m. The first entertainers of the day, Jamie Bergeron & the Cajun Kickins’, will take the stage at 1 p.m. and play until the Grand Parade rolls down Parkerson Ave. at 3 p.m. From 4 to 7 p.m., J Paul & the Zydeco Nubreeds will be Carnival d’Acadie’s final performers.
No pets are allowed at the festival. Food items and refreshments will be sold by local and commercial vendors.
