Carnival d'Acadie to kick off on February 22
CROWLEY – The city of Crowley has released the schedule of events for the 9th annual Carnival d’Acadie Mardi Gras celebration.
The event will be held at the Crowley Enterprise Grounds on North Parkerson Ave. Food and refreshments will be sold by local and commercial vendors and the city asks that pets be left at home.
On Sunday, February 22 the carnival will open from 2 p.m. til 10 p.m. The carnival will run from 3 p.m. til 11 p.m. on Lundi Gras (Monday, February 23) and on Mardi Gras day from 10 a.m. til 7 p.m.
After a welcome from Crowley Mayor Greg Jones at 6:15 p.m. Monday, the live entertainment will begin with Krossfyre playing from 6:30 p.m. til 9 p.m. They will be followed by Travis Matte who will play from 9:30 p.m. til 11 p.m.
On Tuesday, Mardi Gras day, Jamie Bergeron will take the stage from 12:30 p.m. til 3 p.m. The Grand Parade begins at 3 p.m. along with the float judging and the costume contest.
The parade will begin traveling north at the intersection of Front St. and Parkerson Ave., turning west on 2nd St. then turning north onto Ave. F. The parade will continue north to Hutchinson Ave. and turn east around the Court Circle ending between 6th and 7th streets on Parkerson Ave.
Following the parade, J. Paul and the Zydeco Nubreeds will close out the festival, playing from 4 p.m. til 7 p.m.
Commemorative posters of Carnival d’Acadie 2009 are on sale at City Hall. Prices are $10 for an unsigned poster and $20 for one signed by the artist.
